Included in this complete package you will find:
Student Glossary Booklet - including over 200 words, any Latin or Greek prefixes or root words and their meanings, a place for the definition and a place for using that word in a sentence or drawing a picture. I've left this in .docx format so you can add/remove words as you see fit.
Modified Student Glossary Booklet - where the definition is given, but students are still required to put that word into a sentence or draw a picture to show that they have a personal understanding of its meaning.
Weekly Vocabulary Word List - This could be just a resource for you as a teacher, or you could include it in your student booklets to help them manage what words to work on each week.
Glossary Cover Page - a title page for the Student Glossary Booklet so students have a place to put their name and class period.
** We've all read the research that vocabulary is one of the key ways to improve student learning and success in science content. I have used this in my own classroom over the past five years and have found it very useful. Students really develop a deeper understanding of a word/concept when they can see how it is made using different prefixes and root words, as well as own the meaning when they are asked to create an image or sentence of their own. This is a perfect Bloom's activity where kids move up the chart by not just memorizing definitions, but actually creating a drawing or sentence using the definition to deepen their understanding.
** I make copies for every child, and then bind them on the long edge so they can easily flip them. I did try to just staple and hole punch them one year, but they ended up getting more beat-up and front pages ripped more easily due to all of the bending of the pages.
