Life Skills Road Signs Practice | Driving | Reading | Math| Driving Permit | Jeopardy |
In my secondary life skills classroom, I have noticed many of my students are intensely interested in cars and anything driving related. Many of them want to get their permits, but are unable to understand how to take meaningful information from basic signs you see on the road.
I created this product as a necessity to give my students the much needed practice to gain a better understanding of road signs. Students are SO excited to practice their basic reading skills in this game of jeopardy that they completely forget about how much fun they're having while learning in class!
With this download, you get access to a .ppt file that is specifically created to mirror a Jeopardy game. I usually divide my class into 2 and have kids come up and play. Once a $ amount has been clicked, it will change into a light purple color to notify students that option is no longer available.
Students will have to answer 15 questions on basic sign identification, 5 questions on WHERE specific road signs can be found (ex: roadwork sign may be near a construction site), and 5 questions on WHAT TO DO when encountering specific signs (ex: yield - slow down and look to see if it is safe to enter). By differentiating the skill set, all students can participate.
This is an amazing purchase for any special education teacher who teaches teenagers. Specifically designed with higher life skills, resource room, and transition students in mind, it is a great way to get kids engaged with their learning. Even if students' skills would prevent them from actually driving one day, this content gives them the confidence needed to take the first steps to raise greater understanding of the world around them. By using a variety of actual road sign images and then quizzing students on the actual meaning behind them, we can empower students to want to learn and succeed out in the real world,
- 1 Jeopardy game with 25 questions on road signs
- Answers for each question
Get creative and use these in students' IEP goals as well!
"By xx/xx/xxxx, Student A will increase his reading comprehension skills by correctly selecting the meaning of randomly selected road signs from __% accuracy to __% accuracy, as measured by classroom based assessments."
