This resource contains language-based materials to use with the book: "…if you lived in Colonial Times" by Ann McGovern.
The materials can, however, stand on their own without the book.
There is a clinician-written book that follows parts of the book, adapted for easier reading and picture assists.
This adapted book (containing 22 half-pages) shows life then and now for topics in the McGovern book, to use for your students with special needs, whether you are in a substantially separate classroom, or a general ed class with inclusion students.
It can be used with the original book, or alone as an informational “text.”
You may make a copy for each child in YOUR class. Please do not copy for other classes/teachers/families.
compare/contrast and sorting activities,
a time line to sequence,
and a two writing activities.
One is a fill-in to complete the sentence, comparing then and now. The other activity has students draw a picture of what they would have had to do if they had lived then, and write about it (this can be anywhere from a word or two to a paragraph).
