This is a social studies interdisciplinary unit that also includes science, English language arts, math, and the arts. This unit is aligned with the California learning standards for Grade 2, which includes the common core framework for language arts and math. This unit can be modified to match different learning levels.
This unit gives students the opportunity to practice and demonstrate: (a) spatial and chronological thinking skills, (b) finding evidence and processing different points of view, (c) comparing the past with the present, (d) mapping skills in describing different locations and environments, (e) explaining how the United States government and foreign governments operate, (f) describing basic economic concepts, and (g) how an individual’s actions and character affect the lives of other people. This unit also gives students the opportunity to learn about European music, food, flowers, and futbol / soccer.
Students enjoy the opportunities with this unit to experience life in Europe through their sense of smell, touch, vision, hearing, and taste.
