This is a fun creative writing activity, based on the 6-word memoir contests at www.smithmag.net. Tap into creativity by getting students to brainstorm and write 6-word memoirs. My students have displayed them in the classroom. Every time I have used this activity, creativity has flowed and students have produced some really thought-provoking memoirs! These files contain:
- A PDF on the history of the six-word memoir.
- Clear, concise instructions.
- Sample 6-word memoirs to model.
- Topic ideas.
- A planning sheet for easy photocopying.
- A 6-word memoir checklist.
- A link to a New Yorker article "Say It All in 6 Words" to read and discuss.
- A 6-word memoir rubric.
