Life in the 1700s/18th Century Simulation
This is by far one of my most FAVORITE lessons I have ever done with my students! They all loved it and were super engaged, and most of them were begging for more lessons just like this one.
In this simulation, students get to learn about what life was like by living as though they lived in the 18th century. They will have the option to choose several different paths in life and experience the high and the lows from life back then.
Asking students what numbers they choose before revealing the answers keeps the anticipation rising!
The following topics are covered in this presentation:
✤ Population Growth
✤ Working Conditions
✤ Past Times
In addition to this, students will be able to keep track of all of their 'choices' with a Life Log sheet. This allows them to follow the various events in their life. At the end of the Life Log sheet, they will be given three questions to answers.
After the students have answered their Life Log questions, it is always fun to go over the answers with the class and hear the rationale for why they chose the answers they did.
Please note that a lot of the pictures in the PowerPoint are black and white photos. I do realize that photography wasn't around in the 1700s, but the graphics were fun to incorporate and kept students visually engaged. I usually remind them of this before beginning the lesson.
