This Word document is a summary of the plot of the Italian Holocaust movie Life is Beautiful / La vita è bella by Roberto Benigni in "Fill in the Blanks" format.
I have divided the film into five parts/episodes. Each part is approximately 25 minutes long. After viewing each section, students show their understanding of the plot, by filling in the blanks to create a summary. In this way, they are creating their own notes on the film. This active learning methodology works better than when I just provide them with notes. Also, I'm ensuring that they understand the plot, and are getting a good sense of setting, character and theme.
This method works well with students of all abilities, but especially those who might find some elements of this movie difficult to understand.
This resource could also be used as a revision activity.
There is a word bank at the end of each section to help students.
The 4 page solution is also included (9 pages in total).
Download the preview file to see the cloze test for the first few scenes. Even if you don't purchase my product, this will give you a useful exercise with which to start your study of this great film.
