Are you looking for ways to integrate poetry into your classroom?
The handout includes 4 poems for students to read and annotate.
Student directions - As you read the following poems, think about the author’s perspective on life. Write 1-2 sentences next to each poem to specifically describe the author’s attitude toward choices. Then circle or underline words/phrases in the poem that helped you come to this conclusion.
Great for making connections to novels when characters have to make choices! Can be used with any novel.
This activity has been used with 8th graders while reading The Hobbit when Bilbo notices missing scales in Smaug's chest and takes the Arkenstone. Students can then analyze choices that the characters made and the consequences, while also making connections between multiple texts based on concepts.
