This activity by Contextual Classroom is designed as a writing extension assignment for students studying the novel Life of Pi by Yann Martel. This assignment requires students to prepare some questions of inquiry, perform some brief research online on the real-life places that inspired Martel's creation of Pi and his name, and create a written response that incorporates both the novel and the articles found in their research.
Citations are provided for three articles that the students can access online to aid in the creation of their written response.
This activity requires students to read about the inspiration of Pi's name, Piscine Molitor, and to reflect on Martel's techniques in representing real things and places in his fictional text. This task challenges students to use multiple sources to inform their knowledge and writing.
