Light Energy Partner Plays: Science, Reading Comprehension, and Fluency Activity

These six light energy partner plays are intended to be used as fluency-building activities that 4th and 5th grade students can read and complete with a partner. Plus, since I received requests for more scripts that focus on scientific concepts, this set of scripts targets light energy concepts, including light sources, reflection, refraction, concave and convex lenses, colors, and prisms.

It also includes a BONUS comprehension worksheet. After reading each script, students answer two or three comprehension questions that accompany that particular script.

This resource is available in multiple formats. Each teacher gets to choose the format that best meets his/her students' needs. You will choose between the printable partner plays and the paperless version that uses Google Slides. Each script is exactly two pages, making it easy to print them back-to-back on a single page.

These scripts require minimal teacher support, thereby allowing teachers to work with other small groups. For teachers who implement reading centers, these plays are perfect. These scripts are also ideal for parents who are looking for fun at-home reading activities that parents and children can read together. If you have a child who is reluctant to read at home, I encourage you to give these scripts a try!

• The Door Dilemma (opaque, transparent & translucent)
• Reflections (what causes them and smooth vs. bumpy surfaces)
• Bent, but Not Broken (refraction)
• Concave and Convex Lenses (their shapes and uses)
• Splitting Light (prisms, why objects are certain colors- absorption and reflection)
