Shine some light energy into your science curriculum! Kids conduct five sets of hands-on light experiments. The unit includes lesson plans, lab sheets, interactive website, flash cards, review sheet, assessment, and extensions.
Created by master teacher Brenda Kovich, these activities are classroom-tested and kid-approved. Students explore scientific concepts through hands-on exploration. Then they make their own generalizations. An interactive website allows further exploration and clarifies concepts.
Basic Concepts Explored:
For each guiding question, students conduct two or three simple (but powerful) light experiments and make generalizations. Most materials are commonly found in the classroom. (See the preview for the entire list.)
You'll receive lesson plans, lab sheets, review, assessment, and a little “Light Reading.” A companion website*, Exploring Light, was created to share with students. It includes relevant links, review materials, and opportunities for extra exploration. You may project the website or share it with your students for independent exploration.
Just added! This resource now includes five engaging extension activities. Your students will love exploring colors and shadows with these active learning experiences. Color photographs make it easy for teachers to set up light stations, activities, and experiments.

Suggested Sequence for Light Unit:
Pretest - Use the true/false pretest to determine students’ understanding of light.
Read and Explore - Use text and videos found in the Exploring Light website to reinforce and expand students’ understanding of light.
Review - Have students study light concepts using flash cards and study guide.
Posttest - Administer the true/false posttest to assess students’ growth.
Extend - Engage your students with more fun learning experiences.

*This resource includes a supporting Google Site. Kids using Gmail, G Suite, Chromebooks, or any online learning device can access the interactive website with no problem. It allows them to safely access additional blended learning activities, as well as private video content. It works great as a science Chromebook activity.
