Are your students studying reflection and light? This Physical Science STEAM and STEM challenge provides a hands-on learning approach to understanding how reflection impacts human sight! This project requires students to develop a model which describes how light reflecting from objects enters the eyes, causing sight. The activity incorporates the engineering design cycle and includes a leveled text. Students use their observations to write a learning report before a classroom showcase. Writing prompts round out this jammed packed set!

Student Directions Page:
The presented scenario sets students up to create their light reflection submission for the local children's museum.
Student Brainstorming Page:
Engineering Design Cycle Reflection:
Students will reflect about what they did as they worked through each part of the engineering design cycle.
Design & Testing Page:
After students have designed and constructed their model, they will test their design and draw conclusions, making modifications as necessary.
Engineering Learning Report:
Students will complete a one-page report detailing their model, applying mathematics, and conclusion.
The grading rubric allows teachers to assess how students created a model showcasing how reflection impacts vision.
Science Leveled Passage: Sight: How do Human Eyes Work? 3 Leveled Texts
Students will read a leveled passage about the 5 senses and eyes and answer questions based on their understanding.
5 Venn Diagrams:
Students will use data and observation from their STEAM and understanding of concave and convex lenses to complete the Venn Diagrams.
3 Informational Writing Prompts:
Students draw on knowledge of light gained during the STEAM project and further research to complete the writing tasks.
1 Show What you Know: Reflective Task & Writing Prompt
Students will draw on knowledge of light and complete a reflective task before writing about their observation and drawing conclusions
