Rule The Galaxy (and use glow sticks!) to increase engagement with students with speech sound errors. Articulation therapy can be so dry - why not try something totally new and fun to engage kindergarten and first grade students? My sons inspired this resource because they love to play and have fun -- that's how little boys are!
How to Use:
-Select the phoneme that you are working on with your student. Print appropriate sheet with phoneme in the correct word position for your student. Elicit the target word three times and check each circle under the target word after the student’s production.
-When the student has finished producing all the words, have the student select a color to color above the line (green, blue, red, and yellow. Color black below the line to represent the handle.
-Roll up the paper and tape it so that the circles on the “handle” are facing out.
-Insert a glow stick on the inside the light stick and tape it to the inside (this is optional)
-WARNING – Be sure that you instruct the student that the light stick is not meant to be used to hit or hurt other people.
-NOTE – Make sure to select only the appropriate student and family for this resource because it could be perceived as encouraging fighting. Families that are light-hearted fans of Sci-Fi movies are the best fit.
