During the winter holidays, we need to be aware of the multi-culturalness of our classrooms. We need to make all students feel welcome and appreciated. To do this, I try to focus on the similarities between celebrations and holidays that bring us all together: family, food, songs and light.
This power point presentation discusses many holiday celebrated around the world, but it focuses on the similarity of each holiday being celebrated through light. It discusses light as a symbol and light as a part of many holidays around the world. Some of the holidays it touches on include: Christmas, Haunakha, Kwanza, Diwali, St. Martin's Day, Eid al F'tour, Las Posadas and Chinese New Year.
