Reinforce a lesson about tonal scale and drawing mark-making with this puzzle game.
Cut and fold the puzzle pieces so only the drawing side shows. Have students arrange them in a line from light to dark.
Once the kids have arranged the pieces in the order they think is light to dark, have them check out the other side and see if the picture is in the right order. If the picture isn't in the right order, they can use the picture as a guide to get the scale looking as it should.
Or, stand up the pieces like an A-frame, and have one student on one side, and another student on the other, and they can direct each other until the picture is in the right order, and the tonal scale is in the right order.
If students get done early, they can also color in the Botticelli image with crayons, markers or paints (or drawing strokes, if they are feeling ambitious!)
