Get your students thinking poetically, lyrically and creatively with this great limerick activity for St. Patrick’s Day! As St. Patrick’s Day approaches many students are combating the weariness that has begun to overtake them due the impending (and sometimes ongoing) testing season. This lesson plan allows their minds a break, while still giving them practice with some of the Common Core State Standards!
This lesson includes the following:
*An EDITABLE PowerPoint introduction about limericks, WITH guiding lecture notes!
*A PDF of the PowerPoint, to preserve any font or formatting issues
*A student handout that gives them the layout of a limerick, with the rubric so that they can begin writing their own fun and creative nonsense poem!
*Instructions for a class contest to get students competitive with their limericks
This limerick poetry activity covers the following CCSS:
