Product Description
Teaching line plots can be fun and authentic. This packet includes 10 line plot tasks that will have your students collecting, displaying, and interpreting data. Includes tasks that use shoe sizes, liquid measurements, pencil lengths, amount of sleep in a night, ages, number of pets, and more. The tasks included in the packet are not worksheets, they are tasks that will have your students actively engaged in discovering how to create line plots for displaying data and interpret that data through mean, mode, median, range, and more. Some tasks use preset data, others will use data collected within your classroom or grade level. The tasks use a variety of numerical data from whole numbers, fractions with quarters, halves, eighths, and twelfths, as well as the possibility of decimals. Many other mathematical skills are practiced within these tasks including measurement, rounding, all operations with whole numbers and fractions, and more. The tasks are designed for students to work in a variety of ways including individually, with partners, in small groups or as a class. They also provide ample opportunity for rich mathematical discussions. These tasks have made line plots one of my favorite math units to teach.
