This set of 26 task cards will provide students with practice interpreting and creating line plots. The task cards are aligned to CCSS.5.MD.B.2 "Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Use operations on fractions for this grade to solve problems involving information presented in line plots. For example, given different measurements of liquid in identical beakers, find the amount of liquid each beaker would contain if the total amount in all the beakers were redistributed equally."
The task cards require students to make general statements about a given line plot, identify outliers, interpret data, create line plots with whole numbers and with fractions. Students will also need to use the data in a frequency chart or on a line plot in order to answer a word problem (ie, add all of the data on the line plot or find the average using data points).
Please download the free preview above to see the cards.
To be successful with these cards, students must be able to order fractions, including mixed numbers. To solve the word problems, students must be able to add fractions, including mixed numbers, with unlike denominators. They must be able to multiply and divide mixed numbers as well.
