STEM - Extrapolation Stations (Lines of Best Fit) is a FUN way for your students to experience collecting data and predicting future values! This activity is split into 3 stations - relay race, stacking blocks, and tongue twisters.
For each station teams of students will time each other as they complete the activity and fill in the table (run relay races, bounce a ball, say a tongue twister). Then, students will use the data to determine lines of best fit (either with a calculator or manually). Using their line of best fit, they will predict how long it will take them to complete their final trial, run the trial, and compare their predictions with their actual number. The end of the activity also has students analyze their results in writing. You can choose to have the students complete one station or rotate around to all three for more experience.
For this activity, you will need:
masking tape to mark the relay distance
This is a fun way to bring STEM into your classroom!
