This is an investigation for graphing linear equations in the form of y = mx + b. During the investigation, students will discover the effects of the value of "m" and the value of "b" on the equation.
Students can work either independently or in groups to graph a series of equations that allows them to deduce (on their own, with some guidance) how the value of m and then how the value of b will affect the graph.
This activity includes a couple writing pieces that asks the students to analyze their findings and write up a conclusion. You can grade these as you want.
Recommended time period: 1-2 class periods, depending on class time and student ability.
