The goal of this activity is to help students interpret slope as a rate of change and the y-intercept as a fixed/starting value and also to help them to write linear equations from context.
This exploration into linear equations will give your students some context with which to apply to new and different problems involving slopes, y-intercepts and writing linear equations word problems. Students should be familiar with slope and y-intercepts, and tables of values. They also need to know how to find the slope and y-intercept from a graph and plot ordered pairs. Some experience with y=mx+b form would be helpful, but not completely necessary.
Packet includes an exploration activity worksheet, an entrance ticket, or warm up activity, an exit ticket, application worksheet and teacher tips.
This particular activity includes problems that involve earning a profit. Students will be completing a table of values, graphing, reading graphs and tables and answering critical thinking questions.
