This activity has students matching up linear equations with a variety of related topics. These include
- extension (larger coordinate)
- word problem
There are a total of 12 mini puzzles, each with a central oval piece surrounded by four "quadrant" looking pieces. Each mini puzzle forms a rectangle when complete. To complete it, students must analyze a variety of information related to a linear equation. The use of matching allows students to explore the nuances of equations and their related graphs.
Student effort is spent analyzing each equation and determining which equation can be paired with each piece of information. Groups of 2, 3, and 4 students is ideal... however this activity has also been used successfully as a review for a student or students who have had difficulty understanding linear equations.
I would love to hear back from you to see if this activity worked as well in your classroom as it has in mine.
