I created these problems so that my students would see and understand different aspects of a real-life linear problem and to better understand slope.
With this product, there are four variations on the same worksheet, so they may be used in many ways. The teacher may model completing one of the worksheets, then have the students complete another, or the worksheets may be used as quizzes, or the worksheets may be randomly distributed so that not everyone has the same one and more concentrated thinking is necessary.
Furthermore, the problems introduce the idea of solving systems of equations. The word problems are about two people saving money each at a different rate and starting with a different amount. The students read the problem, complete a table of data, and then graph the data. There are five questions relating to slope at the end. So often, students are working with linear equations with no meaning. This product is designed to present linear functions in a meaningful way.
