This Linear Functions Card Sort Activity tests student knowledge on matching linear graphs with their respective equations, graph characteristics, x-y table, and verbal description.
Within the Card Sort Activity there are 5 categories of cards to match:
1) Linear Graphs
2) Equations: Standard Form and Slope-Intercept Form
3) Graph Characteristics including: slope, x-intercept, y-intercept, increasing/decreasing, independent variable, and dependent variable
4) x-y Table
5) Verbal Description
Many of the cards have some missing information, which the students have to fill-in once they've found the matches.
With 12 different sets of matches, there are 60 cards total. Students work to sort and group the cards. A student recording sheet and answer key is provided for easy grading!
Differentiation: The 60 Card Sort Activity is differentiated by use of heterogeneous groups with assigned roles. Directions to differentiate the groups are in the lesson plan!
Common Core Standards:
CCSS.MATH.8.F.B.4 Construct a function to model a linear relationship between two quantities. Determine the rate of change and initial value of the function from a description of a relationship or from two (x, y) values, including reading these from a table or from a graph. Interpret the rate of change and initial value of a linear function in terms of the situation it models, and in terms of its graph or a table of values.
CCSS.MATH.8.F.B.5 Describe qualitatively the functional relationship between two quantities by analyzing a graph (e.g. where the function is increasing or decreasing, linear or nonlinear).
Answer key included.
