This is an activity that my students and I really enjoyed. I shared it at a conference later, and got a lot of positive input from teachers.
It includes 4 parts:
-Linear Regression: Predicting the unemployment rate
-Linear Regression: Predicting approval ratings
-Comparing unemployment rate and approval ratings
-Report to the Obama Campaign
It is suitable for any High School Statistics course that is covering linear regression. It does NOT require graphing calculators, as my students could not all afford them. This activity may be done with scientific or basic calculators :D.
This would also work for AP Statistics or even an enrichment course teaching students about predictions.
It will align beautifully with the new Common Core Mathematics "Modeling" standards.
