By engaging students in these modeling and analyzing linear functions activities involving linear relationships, students will be able to construct functions to model linear relationships between two quantities, analyze functions modeling real world scenarios, and make comparisons in order to draw conclusions. Students will write equations in slope intercept form to model scenarios presented as a table, graph, or verbal scenario. In the cut and paste activity, students match tables and verbal descriptions with their corresponding graphs.

This product is part of the Discovery-Based Worksheet Series. Discovery-Based Worksheets have been specially designed to engage students in learning that moves beyond traditional skills practice. Students will develop a deeper understanding of the big idea and will make connections between concepts. These worksheets make a great introduction to a new topic or summary at the end of a lesson or unit. Try one today!

Construct a function to model a linear relationship between two quantities. Determine the rate of change and initial value of the function from a description of a relationship or from two (𝘹, 𝘺) values, including reading these from a table or from a graph. Interpret the rate of change and initial value of a linear function in terms of the situation it models, and in terms of its graph or a table of values.
