This is an activity to help students understand solving linear systems. Each problem of the activity is a unique ingredient with a unique linear system question, including solving by elimination, substitution, graphing linear systems, and determining if a system has “infinite solutions” or “no solution.” Students are required to build their own slice of pizza using the different ingredients, and then when each question is completed, staple the project together in order to be checked by the teacher (or as I like to tell them, to be cooked to perfection!). Students enjoy making crazy pizzas and seeing all the different ingredients that they can choose. I think the most ridiculous pizza I have seen was a “Bacon-Anchovy-Doritos-Deep Dish Pizza with Feta Cheese crumbles on top,” why anyone would make a pizza like that is simply beyond me! But hey, more power to ‘em!
