### Description

Lines of Best Fit and Bivariate Data Notes

What does this product contain? There are 6 student facing “notes pages” and corresponding teacher keys across key lessons in the 8th grade probability & statistics domain in the 8th grade CCSS (these are geared towards MA state standards, more specifically). These notes pages have been developed over multiple years, and are intended to be used for Direct Instruction of the listed objectives. These are NOT full lessons. Each “notes page” takes anywhere between 8-20 minutes of class, depending on how involved the objective is.

Objectives

1. Intro to scatter plots (positive/negative, strong/weak/no correlation)

2. Drawing an informal line/curve of best fit

3. Finding the equation of a line of best fit

4. Interpreting the meaning of lines of best fit in context

5. Construct a bivariate data table and find relative frequencies

6. Analyze a bivariate data table (total and relative frequencies)

How I’ve used this product in my classroom: Here are a few ideas to effectively implement these notes pages into your classroom.

• You will notice the teacher key “work” is written in blue pen, and additional “annotations” are in a different color. Have students record the “work” in pencil, and have them 1) bring a pen to class or 2) pass out pens so that they can take the “annotation” notes in a different color, per your direct instruction. This is a great way to build students’ note taking ability as they enter higher levels of schooling. And, I’ve found kids love getting the chance to make their notes visually appealing!

• I handed out a notes page packet to students at the beginning of each unit, printed on cardstock paper (who doesn’t like a fancy cardstock packet?!). If used consistently, this notes packet will become a useful artifact from class that students can benefit from the entire year, including studying for exams!

• In my classroom, after using these scaffolded notes, students would be released into ~15 minutes of independent practice, and then a ~10-15 minute formative assessment (Exit Ticket). I sell all of my scaffolded notes and formative assessment exit tickets in my store! Check out the links below!

How I sell these products:

• You can buy notes pages by unit, or as a bundle.

• You can buy exit tickets by unit, or as a bundle.

• You can buy each unit of notes pages and exit tickets paired together.

• You can buy all 63 notes pages and 63 aligned exit tickets as one large bundle [best value!]
