Lines of Symmetry 4th Grade Games / Activities: fun printables for identifying lines of symmetry in 2D shapes, ideal for Math Centers. 54 shape cards for children to consolidate their understanding of line symmetry through activities such as snap, pairs, and by using the game board that is also included (self-checking – answer key included). Symmetrical shapes such as squares, rectangles, other quadrilaterals, triangles, pentagons, hexagons, and other polygons (regular and irregular) are included, plus shapes that are non-symmetrical. The cards can be used on their own too, with pupils working in pairs on a pile of cards and then self-checking with the answer key (the cards are numbered). Could be used for review with older students.
To differentiate for less able learners, mirrors could be provided for pupils to check along lines to see if there is a reflection in the correct place. Remove any cards that would be too challenging for a particular group. Pupils could also draw lines of symmetry onto laminated cards using a dry-wipe marker.
Within the Zip file there are 2 PDF files – one contains the game board and the rest of the resources are contained in the other one. The cards and game board are included in color and black and white versions.
Just print and laminate for repeated use. Use different color card for additional sets so as not to muddle them up. You might want to print or enlarge the board to 11x17 (A3) when printing for use with larger groups. Teacher's notes and student instruction cards (for each game) are included.
