Product Description
While most middle school students are competent at identifying action verbs, those pesky linking verbs are another story! I use this Power Point lesson every year to re-introduce my seventh and eight graders to identifying linking verbs in sentences. The format is interactive and employs active student engagement strategies throughout. We review "state of being" verbs, verbs of condition, how to determine if a verb such as "smell" is being used as an action or linking verb, and how to identify predicate nouns and adjectives. I usually follow the lesson up with a short textbook assignment. The lesson itself takes me about a half hour, allowing for student "table talk" and response. This may be used in conjunction with my "Helping Verbs and Verb Phrases" lessons, but stands perfectly well on its own. - Rae Galeazzi
