This activity helps students learn basics about lipids including: structure, naming, and representation types. The guided inquiry model used here works by asking a series of simple questions and then later some questions inviting larger reflection on those answers with an eye toward synthesizing new information about larger ideas. It is meant to be done in groups of 2-3 over a period of about 30-45 minutes. It is best used to introduce the topic of lipids, as it is a self-contained activity. No prior lecture should be given, but a student-share-out and review discussion would be idea. This is the first activity of two, but can be used as a stand-alone activity.
