"Lips the Fish" is a decoding strategy that can be taught to help students when they approach a word they don't know. Lips the Fish teaches them to look at the first letter of the word and make the first sound. (Lips the Fish is a part of the beanie baby reading animal strategies concept.)
This packet includes
-2 Lips the Fish strategy posters (BW and color)
- 4 Lips the Fish practice pages with detachable bookmarks
Students look at the picture and circle the word that has the same
first sound. I use these practice pages both to model the strategy
and to assess their progress.
- 6 page emergent reader "Ocean Creatures"
Students read the book and when they come to the underlined
words, they circle the correct word by using lips the fish and
looking at the pictures/first sound.
