"Liquid Measurement (Capacity) Practice" features worksheets and other printable materials designed to teach students the concepts of cups, pints, quarts, and gallons, as well as the relationships among these units, that is, "conversion."
Included in this packet are reproducible measurement charts, printable worksheets, and manipulatives relating to capacity and - more importantly and specifically - conversion among the different units of measurement.
As with most of the materials I post on TPT, "Liquid Measurement (Capacity) Practice" is, well, a bit strange, and definitely out of the box. The "Ice Cream Squids" are weird enough to capture any student's interest, and the number stories (word problems) should prove just as engaging.
Included in this packet are:
Liquid Measurement Chart #1 (1 page)
Liquid Measurement Chart #2 (1 page)
"Liquid Measurement" Worksheet (2 pages)
"More Fun with Liquid Measurement" Worksheet (2 pages)
"Capacity" Worksheet (2 pages)
"Ice Cream Number Stories" Worksheet (4 pages)
"Gallons, Half Gallons, Quarts, Pints, and Cups" Manipulatives (5 pages)
"Capacity" Unit Answer Key (1 page)
"An Introduction to Ice Cream Squids" (2 pages)
"Practice Questions" (For use with the manipulatives) (2 pages)
I would recommend copying the 5 different manipulatives on different color papers. These manipulatives are designed so the children can place, for example, 6 "cups" on top of 3 "pints" and see that the two are equivalent. So long as they use these manipulatives properly, the chances of error - even errors of pure carelessness - are extremely slight.
These printable worksheets are an engaging and fun way for students to learn and sharpen their "capacity" and "conversion" skills, whether in math centers, as homework and/or classwork, or as test preparation for state standardized tests (which, as you full well know, will ask students not a simple "capacity" question, but one in which they will have to convert one unit to another.)
The worksheets in "Liquid Measurement (Capacity) Practice" are also rendered in black and white, thereby producing crisp, clear copies every time.
As always, I appreciate you taking the time to preview this product - or any of my products - and hope it will prove to be of benefit to you and your children for many years to come.
