This game helps students gain a visual understanding of customary capacity units (Gallon, Quart, Pint, Cup).
The game board represents one whole gallon. The goal is to fill up the gallon board using smaller pieces for 1/2 gallon, quarts, pints, and cups. Students start the game with a clear game board. They then turn over game pieces and follow instructions (i.e. you get 1 cup, etc.). During each move, students must convert pieces as they can (i.e. 2 cups would change into 1 pint) in order to have the pieces they need to play with. The student who gets a full game board first wins. However, they must watch out for the pesky "switch with another team" which means they must change boards either with their partner or with another team in the class.
You will need colored paper to print out the pieces on, or you can use a color printer if you shade in the pieces in Word before printing. Feel free to modify as needed to fit your class.
