This bundle of mentor text can be used in your kindergarten classroom during your list and label writing unit of study. There are five books included in this bundle. The purpose of these books is to provide your students with text that they can emulate in their own writing. The goal at this unit is to teach students to label objects and look at objects through eyes of a scientist by looking at objects again and again. The other goal is to teach students to tell about their objects across the pages. It is also a goal for students to their labels to help them write a pattern sentence describing their object.
These books are the same books in the list and label mentor text- Labels Only bundle. This is so you can show your students how to pull their labels down and use a pattern sentence to help them write their book.
This bundle is also great for use during the immersion phase. These books can be used as samples to show students what list and label books have, i.e. 1 object on each page, 1 label on each page that describes the object, and writing 1 sentence on each page.
I have a mentor text bin in my writer’s workstation where all of these books were held during that unit of study. My students’ would not only use these during our workstation time but also during our writer’s workshop time to use as samples for their own writing with their objects. I hope your kindergarten students love using these books to inspire their writing as much as my students did.
