This resource will help to engage, reinforce and assess what your . know about the official state song of Ohio, "Beautiful Ohio." Play a recording (not included) and have your students follow the color code key to assess what they hear in different versions of the song. There are two versions of glyphs (one with the state shape, cardinal, carnation and buckeye and the other with the state flag, cardinal carnation and buckeye) for each style. That way you can alternate glyphs with your class (half the class works on one while the other half works on the other glyph) all while listening to the same recording. Glyphs also contain wording for younger and older students.
The glyphs were designed to go with the 7 different stylistic recordings I purchased. There are links (not my creations) to YouTube for these musical examples for you. The styles are uniquely different from each other: marching band, 1940’s vocalist, big band, fancy piano (with strings), pedal steel guitar (Hawaiian sounding), Wurlitzer organ (carousel sounding), and heavy metal.
Also included are lyric books for each of your students to create. They write the lyrics under the correlating picture and then add historical/background information on the last page. In addition a similar activity (but with "posters") is included for groups to work together on (adding lyrics, coloring and arranging lyrics in order).
This is a great resource to add to your unit for Ohio history/music!
NOTE: Recordings are not included.
