This resource is designed to be used with children who are new listeners using cochlear implants and/or hearing aids to target auditory awareness and object/sound associations. It contains 3 "picture checklists" of objects in a child's environment that make noises. There is one checklist for each of the following environments: home, outside, at school.
The activity can be done in a therapy/classroom setting, or sent to parents to complete at home. The checklists can be printed ahead of time or viewed on an iPad or smartphone, as each checklist comes in a full color version as well as black/white. The child and adult go on a "Listening Walk" to explore the various sounds in the environment and learn the corresponding sound(s) they make, checking off the objects they find. Included in the resource are more detailed descriptions on how to complete the activity, as well as ideas for follow up.
This resource would also be a great language or cooperative social language activity!
