This is the fourth installment in a series of units designed to guide students in acquiring the language related to school and classroom. The first one had a cultural focus on Mexico, and this one is focused on the Caribbean. Students practice speaking about the classroom and the school, using sentence structures like hay, está en, es, etc. in conjunction with school vocabulary. This teaching unit includes maps, carefully selected images (most of them from Cuba, República Dominicana or Puerto Rico) to convey meaning, speaking, writing and listening activities and detailed teaching notes and suggestions for further activities. It also includes a worksheet for one of the assessments, videos to reinforce at home, and playing cards. The pages follow a logical teaching order that will guide you through the unit. The unit is aligned to the new FL standards (included), at the novice high level.
