Pumpkin Pie Circle Activity for Rhyming Words
Rhyming is an important early phonics skill and this Center Time Activity is designed to help kids recognize words that rhyme. Words with ending rhyme have the same final vowel sound and following consonant sound(s).
Rhyming words help children remember words more easily. Children find that working with words that rhyme is fun. The cute graphics interwoven into this activity will keep them engaged as the class works to fill each pumpkin pie. Rhyming also helps children learn about word families and how words are put together. Kids also begin learning about the patterns, rhythms, and structure of our language through words that rhymes.
This Thanksgiving themed circle activity lets students practice the rhyming sounds of “ain”, “op”, “at”, “ick”, “ug” Students will take turns choosing a picture and deciding which pie their picture rhymes with. Next they will go up and place the picture on the correct pie. There is a companion worksheet that students can complete independently to reinforce this skill.
