This is a simple, fun game for your literacy centers. Cut and laminate the cards (alphabet & yeehaw! See preview) and have small groups of students place them face down on table. One at a time students take turns picking a card. If they can correctly identify the letter (or sound, for more advanced players) they get to keep the card.
If a student draws a "Yeehaw!" cowboy, then he or she says "Yeehaw!" and picks a bonus card (or two) and play continues. The student with the most cards at the end of the game is declared the winner.
For such a simple game, you'd be surprised how excited kinder and 1st grade students get while playing this game. It is a great way to get in some fast-paced letter name/sound practice.
