Print! Laminate! Cut! That is all you have to do to create a Magician Themed Literacy Center that your students will enjoy.
Knowing the correct spelling to make a word plural can be difficult for students. This literacy center will give them hands on practice for words ending with the letter y. When a word ends in "y" and you change the word to make it plural by following one of these rules: 1. If the word ends in a vowel + y, add “s” to the word. 2. If the word ends in a consonant + y, change “y” to “I” and add “es”.
Students will use these rules to decide how the magician should change the single word ending in “y” into its plural form. The students will sort through matching pictures with the plural word spelled in various ways. They much decide which spelling is correct and match it by putting it in the blank box. After having the hands on fun of an interactive learning center, students will record the results on the accompanying worksheets which can be turned into the teacher for accountability.
