Synonyms and antonyms can be lots of fun for students.
Synonyms are words that have a similar meaning, but not necessarily the same meaning. This allows students to learn to differentiate between various shades of meaning and enables them to be more precise. In addition, by learning antonyms, students learn the logical opposites of various words, thus enhancing their overall command of language. Synonyms and antonyms can also be helpful to know because they improve reading and writing skills.
In this Rainbow themed center, students have "hands on" opportunity to practice deciding which words are synonyms and which words are antonyms. Students will then record the results in the correct columns of their worksheet and create sentences using those words to further reinforce their learning. This worksheet can be turned into the teacher for accountability.
