A prerequisite to reading is learning the letters and the sounds that each letter makes. Often when learning new words, children apply the strategy of using the beginning sound to help them identify the word from a set of familiar vocabulary. This learning center uses this skill and encourages children to use the rest of the word to double check if the remaining sounds make sense when compared to what they think the word should be.
This superhero themed center lets students practice beginning skills by matching a word to a picture. The students will then reinforce their learning by writing the entire word on the accompanying worksheet. The worksheet will be turned into the teacher for accountability.
