Literacy Center - Valentine Compound Words
Print! Laminate! Cut! That is all you have to do to create a Literacy Center that your students will love.
Kids love creating compound words. A compound word is made when two small words are joined together to make a new word that has a new meaning. Students will have an opportunity to create compound words using a Valentine themed literacy center.
This center contains cute graphics that will keep your students engaged and happy as they complete the job and fill out the accompanying recording sheet. After students match the two sides of the heart to make a compound word they find the written word that shows their new compound word.
On the recording sheet, students will write “short word” + “short word” = “compound word.” Then students draw a picture of the compound word. The worksheet can be turned into the teacher for accountability and assurance that the center was completed independently by the student.
