These 8 literacy centers for 2nd grade are helpful for teaching alphabetical order, sentence editing, blends & digraphs, homophones, synonyms and antonyms, vowel teams, nonfiction text features, and grammar skills.
This center comes with 20 word lists. Each list has a theme (e.g. sports, fall words, winter words, animals). There are ten words in each list.
These strips can come in handy at your word work center. Laminate them and have students use them with dry erase markers to make words that start with common blends and digraphs.
Use this fun match game with a penguin theme to reinforce homophones. There are also some worksheets included.
This activity can help students identify nonfiction text features in short reading passages. It comes with 3 passages about animals (dogs, cats, & birds). Students cut out the text features word boxes and paste them directly onto the passage.
Students try to guess the "mystery word" on the card. There are a few clues given about the word (whether it is a noun, an adjective or a verb, how many letters it has, what it starts or ends with, etc.). Students play in groups of three. One student reads while the other students guess.
