This tool is intended to be used to develop common understandings of what balanced literacy looks like in classrooms between teachers, literacy coaches, reading specialists, principals, and any other types of administrators.

Each category lists "look for" items. This fidelity tool is not only for principals to use during walk throughs, it could also be used by literacy coaches and for teachers who want to gain an understanding of key places they should be hitting in order to teach using a Balanced Literacy teaching framework.
-Student Classroom Guarantees for Literacy Instruction and All Students Will: The list of collective commitments included in this product is intended to give literacy teams a starting point for establishing criteria for what each literacy classroom can guarantee to students.
-Literacy Core Instruction At-a-Glance and Coordinating Planning Template: This gives an overview of how a balanced literacy class period could be structured with key points about each type of instruction. A teacher lesson-planning template is included that coordinates with the overview.
