In book one the main character Sofia Monaris is 9 years old.
Sofia and her family are a typical Italian immigrant family that arrived at Ellis Island aboard the Florida in 1903. Sofia is detained and quarantined for Trachoma.
While in quarantine Sofia meets Maureen O'Malley who is also detained for the same reason. Through their endeavors and some help from their good friends they have met along the way the girls are reunited with their families. They are both delighted to be Home at Last.
This guide is based on book 2. This novel is great for introducing tenement life in Boston in 1903. There is 9 lessons
of comprehension questions, story elements, and a complete answer key.
