December Cross-Curricular Gingerbread & Trees Themed Literacy and Math Center Games!
Depending on the activity, prep may include printing on copy paper or cardstock, laminating, cutting and putting together materials for the number of students that you have. Directions to all activities are on a center game sheet.

Literacy Center Games
Gingerbread CVC Word Game
: Students insert vowels gingerbread cookies onto line on the word cards and make words. Students can write words on white boards or paper. They may also use the Make A Word worksheets included in resource.
Gingerbread Real & Nonsense Word Sort:
Children place cards face down and take turns drawing a card. Student reads words and decides whether it is a real word or nonsense words. Child checks with partner or group to make sure he/she is accurate. Child can place card on the correct chart provided or child writes words on t-chart on white board or use sheet provided in this resource (each student may have a sheet or you could use one sheet for the whole game). The next person takes a turn. Play until all cards have been used.
Tree Sight Word Game: Word Game:
Children place cards face down and take turns drawing a card. If student can read the sight word, they keep it, if they cannot they must put it back. If they draw a Ornament Card follow its directions They must read all their cards, the person who has the most cards wins. Memory Game:
Make two sets of the sight word cards and children place the cards face down in rows. They take turns turning two cards over to see if they have matched the same sight words. If it does they keep both cards, if not they turn the cards back over and the next child has a turn. The person who has the most matches wins the game.
Tree Make a Word Game:
Children take an ornament (consonant & consonant blends are provided) and put it in front of a word chunk tree to make a word. Children can write word on paper or white board or use one of the 8 worksheets to go with this activity.
Math Center Games
Gingerbread Missing Number Clip Game:
Children place a paper clip or clothes pin to the correct answer of what numeral is missing in the series of three numbers. Note: Put a little sticker on the back of card in the correct answer space so students an easily self-correct.
Gingerbread Man Roll and Cover:
(2 types) Students roll either one or two dice depending of the game card, and cover the number that corresponds to the number of dots rolled on the die. Can be played individual or with a partner.
Christmas Tree & Ornament Number Match Game:
(2 types) Print with colored ink and laminate (print as many ornaments as you think you will need). Cut tress and ornament cards. Students place the number of ornaments to match the Christmas tree’s numeral or number word.
5 In A Row Tree Math Game:
Children roll 2 dice and cover the sum. If the sum is not open, it is their partners turn. The person who covers 5 in a row first wins! The tree in the middle is a free space!
