Silly Sentence Book - Early literacy activity and initial sound sorting for ECE, kindergarten, preschool, pre-k, RTI, and special education.
I made a Silly Sentence book several years ago and we have been successfully using it as a take-home literacy activity for our students. The kids love it, parents love it, and siblings love it. The book provides a fun, interactive way for children to work on early literacy skills with their families.
Please see the preview file for pictures of the completed book.
Children practice phonemic awareness and expand vocabulary as they sort picture cards on the alphabet pages. They construct sentences and practice reading when they attach picture cards to the silly sentence pages. They have an opportunity to practice writing skills as they complete the worksheet with their parents. Additional ideas for using the book are also included.
The set includes 7 alphabet pages, 78 picture cards, 4 silly sentence pages, a worksheet, a letter to parents with directions, a binder cover, binder spine, and a bag tag. To complete the book, you will need a 2” binder, self-adhesive Velcro, a 3-hole punch and a laminator.
In addition to using the Silly Sentence Book as a take-home activity, the book is a great addition to your classroom bookshelf, it is a fun common core aligned literacy center activity, and it can even be used as a busy book in your home or car. I always use clear, easy to read fonts for our young learners. The book is appropriate for preschool, pre-k, kindergarten, 1st grade, special education, and home school classrooms.
