This is a schedule that I give to students to explain rotations. This is set up to be used twice a week (Mondays and Fridays). Group 3 is the lower ability group; they get to meet with the teacher group twice. This schedule also incorporates a section for students to record the word roots they are working with.
You'll need to create a vocabulary list of roots or words you want students to use. You'll also want to create a list of writing prompts to use weekly.
If you have a 45 minute class period, like I do, this is a very simple way to be able to get small group instruction into your weekly routine.
